Hudson Group and MenEssentials Open Retail Shops at Burbank Bob Hope Airport

mens-essentialsJust in time for the holidays, a series of new retail shops has opened at Burbank Bob Hope Airport so that passengers can shop ‘til they drop—or pick up some last-minute gifts!
In November, Hudson Group revamped, renamed, and reopened their in-terminal stores, which now offer the latest in technology products; a wide selection of books, snacks, clothing, and children’s items; and locally-made confections that represent the unique flavors of the region. Hudson of Hollywood is located in the Terminal A lobby, directly across from the Lunch Box restaurant; Hudson of Burbank is located across from Gate A3; and Pasadena Marketplace is located near Gate B3, across from Peet’s Coffee. Glendale Crossings, which is expected to open soon, is located between Gates A6 and A7.

In early December, Glendale-based men’s grooming store MenEssentials also opened an in-Airport location near Gate A4, complete with on-site shaving services. Passengers can choose to purchase a shave on the spot, or select from a variety of grooming, skin, and hair care products that can be shipped to passengers’ homes or travel destinations.
“We’re thrilled to provide our passengers with some new and exciting retail options,” said David Freedman, the Airport’s Director of Business, Property, and Administrative Services. “We believe the remodeled Hudson stores, as well as the new MenEssentials location, will enhance the overall Burbank Bob Hope Airport passenger experience.”
Airport Launches Redesigned Website

new-bha-websiteBurbank Bob Hope Airport’s redesigned, traveler-centered, mobile-friendly website is now live at http://www.bobhopeairport.com/! In addition to providing site users with a live flight status feed and Google Maps-powered directions, the site will keep visitors informed about exciting Airport developments, including new airline service, Thanks Again rewards program deals, and the Airport’s frequent social media giveaways.
“The primary goal of this redesign was to improve overall user experience and make our website as convenient and easy-to-use as our Airport,” said Airport Authority President Frank Quintero. “We want passengers to be able to find information quickly on whatever device they’re using, whether it’s a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. We’re very pleased with the new navigation and traveler-centered features, which we hope will attract more users to our website.”

Pasadena to NoHo Express Bus Trial Route Approved to Begin in March
Burbank Bob Hope Airport passengers traveling to and from Pasadena will have a new way to get to the Airport this coming spring. The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) approved a 180-day pilot program of an express bus route between the Del Mar Gold Line Station in Pasadena and the North Hollywood Red and Orange Line Station, with stops in Burbank and Pasadena, the Burbank Leader reported. The route’s terminus at the North Hollywood Metro Station will allow express bus riders to connect with the recently expanded BurbankBus service between the station and the Airport, which runs from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays.
History Spotlight: World War II Camouflage

hp4000During World War II, the Lockheed Corporation was concerned about the potential for an enemy attack on the Lockheed Skunk Works where employees were developing and building new military aircraft, and the adjacent Burbank Bob Hope Airport, which was then known as Lockheed Air Terminal. The Lockheed Corporation enlisted the help of the local movie studios to help camouflage the airfield and make it invisible to enemy spy planes. The result disguised the Airport as a serene, bucolic farmland to anyone with an aerial view—but in actuality, Airport operations bustled underneath the camouflage!

jase-audioOverheard on the @fly_bur Instagram account: “One of the highlights of my annual trip to the USA is visiting Burbank Airport. I do not have 100% vision so visiting BUR is a treat (for) me as it is small and easy to navigate. Most of all I like walking out to the plane and hearing all the planes as I walk out and the experience of walking beside the plane and under the wing make it special and unique.” — @jaseauradio

TRID costing clients more than just time

It’s meant to protect clients, but TRID is also costing clients money, according to one industry professional.

Debt-FrustratedTRID is forcing clients to lock in rates for longer periods of time, due to the increased need for longer closings. And it’s hitting them where it hurts, says Roger Kuman, president of Trident Mortgage Group.

“It’s costing the borrower, because when they have to lock an interest rate in for longer; more people are taking out 60 day locks, which cost more than 30 day locks,” Kumar told Mortgage Professional America. “For example, a 60 day lock on a $400,000 loan could cost $1,000-$1,500 more.”

TRID has created an environment where clients have to acknowledge various steps in the originations process, which, according to Kumar, extends the length it takes to close a file.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” Kumar said, noting that the full impact has yet to be felt.

“It’s only been in effect since October 3, so you aren’t seeing the full extent.”

The TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure was implemented on October 3. The purpose of the new rule is to ensure clients have adequate time to review closing documents.

And Kumar’s is the latest complaint from an industry frustrated by the most recent change.

“We’ve had seven closing so far and they haven’t gone as well as we’d hoped,” Russ Glines, a broker with Century Oak Financial, recently told Mortgage Professional America. “As a broker, we have to deal with several lenders and each of those lenders has a different way of interpreting the new rules.”

Glines is critical of the recently implemented TRID rule, calling it government over-regulation. He also argues it doesn’t benefit buyers.
